Welcome to Kula
When locals want to escape the heat, they head up to the rolling hills and expansive pastures of Kula and the quaint communities above Ulupalakua and Keokea. Kula translates to “open country”, this loosely designated area sits between 1,000 and 8,000 feet of elevation and is known as the breadbasket of Maui. Many farms, both agricultural and equestrian, populate the hillsides.
Relaxed and slow-paced, the area’s farming and ranching history is evident. There are no direct public roads connecting Kula to South Maui, the somewhat isolated feel, cooler temperatures, and stunning bi-coastal views are what draw many homebuyers to the area. Kula is truly a unique slice of paradise. There are almost no condominium complexes in Kula, the notable exception being the townhomes at The Cottages at Kulamalu.
